France: From La Ville Lumiere to L'Escargotier...

Even though it took a ferry, a train, a bus, and a plane to get there, we arrived smiling in Paris. Our time in the city (as well as our budget) was limited, and despite some pretty discouraging opinions from folks along the way, we now agree with Audrey, "Paris is always a good idea..."

Although we have traveled by train through siberia in winter, hitch hiked through the Balkans, and hiked 60 miles across an unexpectedly treacherous island, it was our Fiat Panda that left us feeling the most exposed along the way. Despite our reservations, the Panda served us well on our trip through Alsace Lorraine...

Strasbourg, France: Where Kelly's Great-Great-Great Grandfather was born.

Kelly's Great-Great-Great........Grrrrrrreeeeeeaaaaat....Grandfather, Andrew Jundt, was born in the village of Ottrott in 1530.

Possible distant relative...

After our genealogical excursion we headed West to the city of La Havre and the village of Marais Venier in Normandie, France. For two-and-a-half weeks we worked with Yves, Lucy, Yneck (8 months), and Elisa (3) on their organic escargot farm.

Perhaps the last truly "scruffy" photo...

With only two weeks left in our time abroad we said our goodbyes to Yves, Lucy, Yneck, and Elisa and made our way North to see our friend Cyril in St. Omer! We met Cyril in New Orleans when he couch surfed with us and Elbert. We have since kept in touch and found ourselves pursuing really similar paths. In typical Cyril style, he had a volunteer obligation while we were in town and we were privileged to be able to go with him to his midnight shift at a homeless shelter in the city of Lille. In the days following our shift we traveled around St. Omer with Cyril and explored the swamps and beaches- brought back lots of memories of Louisiana.
